PLANS FINALIZED FOR COMPANY PICNIC Yvonne Kirchenbauer, chairman of the company picnic, reports that all arrange- ments have been made for a wonderful pic- nic this year. Don't forget it will be this SATURDAY, AUGUST 13th at Curry Creek Park in Clavton. For those who want to come early and stay late the park will be open by lo:30 A.M.; chow time will be at 12:OO noon. Bring your bathing suits as there is a nice swimming pool. Games are being plan- ned for the children and there will be volleyball, horseshoe throwing, baseball, croquet and dancing. Yvonne is also planning a swinging bingo game. We will have plenty of food so just bring yourselves and have an enjoyable day. We have the odds in our favor this year for a beautiful sun shining day.

VACATIONS - WELCOME BACK! Tuesday morning, July 19th, and near- ly everyone had returned to their jobs after enjoying their vacation during the usual vacation shut down. A few people were unable to take their vacations at this time and will be doing so later. Horst Herrmann and his wife and daugh- ter went to the mountains for a week. They went horseback riding, swimming, etc. Spent the 2nd week working at home. Tom Hale spent the first week loafing ar shouse and playing golf. The second week he took his family to Lake Tahoe. Saw the Danny Thomas show, went swimming, gambled and he and his friend took their children fishing at a trout farm and they caught fish alright, - $12.00 worth. Joe Ursini looked for a new home and went to Los Angeles over the week end. Coming home he had car trouble in Fres- no and had to take the bus home from there. Ron Bultena went to Clear Lake. Went water skiing, motor cycle riding, and rldear" hunting. Bernice Teeter flew to Los Angeles to visit relatives and take in the horse races (didn't ynin). She came home for 2 days and then went to Reno. Her husband won 3rd in the trap shoot while there. 3rd prize was a trophy and $600.00. Fumiko Takeshita spent most of her time at home as her husband was stranded on the east coast because of the airline strike. Fumiko got lots of rest, cleaned house and went shopping. Her husband got home the last Friday of her vacation, so he took her out on the town. Julius Rosin went to Lake Pillsbury am a goodrest. Fishing wasn't very good this year. Peter Fredzess worked one week at H.I. and spent the other week working a- round the house. He will be taking his 2nd week of vacation in August. Henr -+ Schuetz only had 2 days off and says e's savingis money to get married. Alfons Keil and his wife spent some time at their ranch near Patterson and also went to Los Angeles. Pete Radovich built a fence during his 215 days vacation. Chuck Russell spent his two days at home working on his house and watched the All Star game (IN COLOR). Pui Leun went to Lake Tahoe and did 4. Helen some gam Van Slyke spent her time at home (when she wasn't called back into work), as her husband was ill. Yvonne Kirchenbauer and family enjoyed their last Years vacation at Lake Tahoe so (I much that they repeated it again this year. John Chin and-his-family went to Co-op Camp Sierra near Shaver Lake. John said the; really ate well this year. Also went 'swimming, etc. as they have all forms of recreation there. Shirley Ramacher only took one week of her vacation and we& on daily excursions (beach, etc.). Rollene Phillips took short drives, went swimming and got a little sunburn. Bill Stairs went to L.A. for a couple ofaays and when he got home he took his little girl to the zoo, ice show, etc.

VACATIONS CONTINUED: Martin Kaufmann spent his two weeks on active duty at the Hamilton Air Force Base. He is a major in the Air Force Reserve. Bob Peacock and his wife trav- eled up the coastline through Califor- nia, Oregon and Washington and then back down inland, stopping at Clear Lake for 3 days to get some California sunshine. There had been fog and rain in Oregon. They did some fishing and visited State Parks. Ral h Schramm spent one week in Nevada sel* is property there and worked at his home and on his model railroad the 2nd week. Al Jones flew to Los Angeles on the few days vacation he had. While there he watched the filming of a seg- ment of the T.V. series "Combat" and ate with the crew, actors, etc. Ernie Shanks and wife traveled to CarmeT Monterey, visited the Hearst Castle, -- on to L.A., Disneyland, and Marineland. Also spent a few days at home. Hans Graetsch only had 3 days and wenmsh- ing one of the days. took his family to Santa and worked at home. Peter Lantelme and family spent a week at Monte Rio at Russian River. They went swimming and visited the Old Russian Ft. Worked at home the other week. Snarkv Nelson and family went to Disney% Knotts Berry Farm and Marineland and then was called back to work. Kenneth Wea- gant stayed at home and worked. He worked the other week at H.I. Rich Netto and family toured all through California. Spent two days at his orchard in Hollister. Peter Schwarz- bath only had one week, so he stayed home and took it easy. Dick Leuba and family went to the mountains with a group- from the Sierra Club. They had to walk in about 8 miles to their camp, which was at 9,000 ft. The highest they climbed was to 11,700 ft. One morning they started climbing before dawn using a flashlight and were on top of the mountain by 8 A.M. Antti Fa erroos traveled the farthest thihve nearly 7,000 miles, across the states and up to Toronto, and then back across the country through Canada. Monty Montgomery worked on his car, painted his house and took his child- ren-to the beaches, Santa Cruz and Monte- rey for a few days. Fred Wolff and his wife traveled to Yellowstone Park, on up into Canada, to Lake Louise, the ice fields and back down into Washington, Oregon and stopping at Lake Tahoe for a couple of days. He even found he had returned home early enough to rest for a few days. Melba Strickland claims she d&l "NUTHIN". Your Editor spent part of her vacation at Rzlssian River with her family, one day at Jenner by the sea, and a few days at home. Kneisel took her second weeks vacation yw in June w en her daughter and family came to visit from Ponca City, Oklahoma. Two other daughters went back to Ponca City with their sister to stay a month. So vacation time is all over for most of us and now we can start making our plans for next yearc

TRAVELERS: On June 8th, ri Leung flew to San Diego. He helpe repair a thermograph at the University of California. During the week of June 13th. K. E. Hallikai&n visited California 'ieail Co., N.Y., Hydrocarbon Research Inc., N.Y., M.W: Kellogg-Co., N.Y., Sinclair Oil-Co., _ N.Y., Esso Research & Engineering, N.J., Foster Wheeler, N.J., Nopco, N.J., Mobile Oil Co., N.Y., Arabian American Oil Co., N.Y. and the Imperial Oil Enterprises in Canada. Mr. Hallikainen discussed our in- struments and Systems with the different companies. M. L. Bramson attended the AMA National Convention in Chicago during the week of June 27th. He had the Bramson-Membrane- Heart-Lung machine on exhibit. Jim Valle flew to the Caribbean Gulf Re- finery at Bayamon, Puerto Rico on July 12th to repair a couple of viscometers and to train operators for the viscometers. His work was hampered a little by sudden show- ers one day and a gasoline fire the next. Jim was back at his desk on the 18th.

NEW EMPLOYEE: Thomas Clark, our new employee in the Sales Depar-tment, is a native Califor- nian. He was born and raised in Alta- dena. After graduating from South Pasa- dena High School, Tom enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley. He majored in Petroleum Engineering at the University. Tom spent his summers work- ing in the oil fields in Southern Cali- fornia. For two years he was in the Chemical Corp in the Army at Ft. Ord. He then went to New York to business school and got his MBA after 2 years from Cornell University. That summer Tom went to Europe and when he returned to the states he came to live in San Francisco. His first job was in Data Processing for I.B.M. Before coming to H.I. he was a sales engineer for Taylor Instruments, San Leandro. Tom enjoys playing rugby and snow skiing. On July 23rd, Tom left for a months trip to Europe. The first week he will spend at Elliott-Automation in London and then he is going to Sweden, where he will be married to Brittmarie Jans- son. Tom met Brittmarie in San Francisco. The Clarks will spend their honey- moon in Greece and return to San Fran- cisco to live. Tom is expected back at his desk on August 25th.

BITS ABOUT 'EM: 50 YEARS +: Talmage Nelson's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Quietman Nelson celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary, Satur- day, July 16. All six children and their families were present for the celebration. DO BLONDES HAVE MORE FUN? Ask Ron Bul- tena in the Electronics Department. Seems the color of his hair has changed. WINNER: Gregg Kuehn, son of George Kuehn, won an all expense paim day tripto Mexico City, Mexico from the Richmond Independent. Gregg is an Inde- pendent carrier. George's daughter, Dianne, graduated recently from nurse's training and is now working at Brookside Hospital. SUMMER HELP: Mark Schimbor has returned to help in the Accounting Department again for the summer. He will be a senior this fall at the University of California and then plans to go on to law school. Mark had all A's last year and had the honor of be- ing in the top 5 of 3,000 students. Mark is becoming an avid golfer, playing 3 to 5 times a week. The pleasant redhead in Mr. Schimbor's office for the past month was Gail Barrett from Western Girls, who was helping out in the Sales Department during vacation time. Harold Hallikainen is spending part of his school vacation time working in the stock room. Harold will be a sophomore at Miramonte High School, Orinda, this fall. He has just completed 6 weeks of summer school. Harold's hobby is build- ing transmitters and trying to record T.V. sound and pictures on tape. He has three tape recorders and at the present time is trying to build a transmitter so he can get a ham radio operator's li- cense.

BITS ABOUT 'EM Continued: MOVED: E. F. Schimbor has moved to No- vato and has been busily painting the house and planting greenery. Good for making strong muscles. VISIT FROM FORMER EMPLOYEES: Jewella Deffebach (Production office) and her daughter, Carrie, came in to see her old friends. Ken Kole (Sales) brought his wife and daughter along with him on one of his visits to H.I. George Hays (Sales) stopped by and John Wolf (Assembly) is back from Germany and was in to see every- one at H.I. Arlene Lee (Sales) brought her son in to show us how he had grown. It was nice seening them again.

NEW OFFICERS: The new Board of Directors for the Instru- ment Society of America, Northern Cali- fornia Section for 1966-67 include Norm Waner, Past President, and K. E. Ham kainen, National Delegate. Congrat- ulations!!

NEW RECREATION PROGRAM: A new employee recreation program has been started at Hallikainen Instruments. The committee directing the program con- sists of Tom Hale, chairman,-Larry Pease and Hans Graetsch. The committee reports that volleyball is now being played-daily in the back lot and girls are welcome to play. They plan to have a croquet game set up soon. (Thanks to Mr. Schimbor who donated the set). The committee has plans to purchase two picnic tables so that employees who desire to eat their lunch outside, may do so, Some sports equipment (balls, horseshoes, etc.) will also be purchased and placed in a locker out- side the building in the patio area. The financial help will come from the profits of the canteen machines. So the more we patronize the machines the more money we will have to operate the recreation program.

MORE ABOUT 'EM: JAPANESE VISITOR: Fumiko Takeshita and her husband, Ben helped to entertain Mr. A. Obata on his visit here from Tokyo, Japan during the week of June Mr. Obata is our representative in Japan. He is associated with Teijin Shoji Kaisha Ltd. The Takeshita's took Mr. Obata to see many places of interests in the Bay Area, Japanese 4.

restaurants and night spots. It seems Mr. Obata enjoyed himself very much and sent back some picutres he took during his visit here. (Including a picture of Fumiko and her husband, and a picture of Mr, Schimbor).
