Bouquets to Mr. Bramson - by Yvonne Kirchenbauer Perserverance in the face of many, many adverse developments, over a five year period, is the keynote of this success story. After years of experimentation on dogs, Mr. Bramson's "Membrane Oxygenator" has now been used for the fifth time in "open heart surgery" (on real live people, that is) with overwhelmingly successful results. The doctors who head the cardiac depart- ment of the Presbyterian Medical Center in San Francisco, with whom Mr. Bramson has worked, are unanimous in their applause of the Mem- brane Oxygenator% performance. Its fame has already spread as far east as the Mayo Clinic. As a matter of fact in December the head of that hospital's cardiac depart- ment will arrive in San Francisco to investi- gate for himself the enthusiasum already shown. We salute Mr. Bramson's undefeatable spirit.

New Employee: Mr. Robert L. Ludlum has re- cently joined the company and is .in charge of our newly created Systems Division. Mr. Ludlum grew up in the state of Washington. He graduated from Washington State College with a B.S. in Chemical Engi- neering. Shortly thereafter he took a job with Shell Chemical Company in Martinez and was connected with Shell Companies from that time until his retirement this past August. Working with our instruments is not a totally new experience for Mr. Ludlum as he has a broad background in the petrochemical field. He has worked in areas concerned with instrument engineering, electrical engineering, supervision of both large-scale and pilot plant operations, and research and control laboratories. During his employ- ment with Shell Chemical Company Mr. Ludlum had the opportunity to spend two years in Chester, England where he was assistant to Associate Director of research, pilot plant section of Thornton Research Centre, "Shell" Refining and Marketing Co., Ltd. Bob and his wife reside in Martinez. They both enjoy using their free time and talents in areas of teaching. Mrs. Ludlum teaches piano to members of the community, and Bob teaches a night school class in in- dustrial instrumentation at Diablo Valley College. When there is enough spare time to really roll his sleeves .up Bob remodels their home. He also has a ham radio operator's license. But, for-the obvious reason - no time - he doesn't get much of a chance to put the talents that earned the license to work.
